TEACHER OF A LEVEL CHEMISTRY
Required to start 1 September 2023
Full-time and fixed term for one year until 31 August 2024
This post could potentially be split into two smaller part-time positions – please indicate your preference in the covering letter
We are one of the top-performing colleges in the country, situated in the cosmopolitan seaside city of Brighton & Hove. Working here offers the combination of both a wonderful place to work and a great city in which to live. Our students and staff are colourful, aspirational and hard-working – which is perhaps why 96% of employees would “recommend BHASVIC as a good place to work” and many of our students go on to Higher Education.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and skilful teacher to contribute to the teaching of A level Chemistry. The position is a full-time, fixed-term role arising because of the Head of Department being granted a one-year sabbatical. It is possible that the role could comprise some pastoral tutoring. [More information about this will be available at interview].
The BHASVIC Corporation has adopted the conditions of service and salary scales applicable to sixth form colleges. The current full-time salary range for qualified teachers is £28,125 to £44,256 per annum (depending upon experience).

Company
We are a successful Sixth Form College, graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2012.
About 50% of our students come from Brighton and Hove, but many come from other state and independent schools throughout Sussex. The same variety of backgrounds, cultures and interests that make the Brighton area unique, also makes the College a lively, stimulating place to work.
There are approximately 2500 students on roll, of whom the vast majority (approximately 99%) follow Level 3 courses (mostly AS, A levels or BTECs) with the remainder following ESOL courses. The vast majority of our students are in the 16-19 age range, and following full-time courses. We have a strong local reputation for the academic success of our students and for our focus on individuals’ needs.
We are very proud of the achievements of our students and very much value the individual contribution that each of our staff make to our continuing success. Our last staff satisfaction survey found that nearly 90% of staff at BHASVIC enjoyed their job.
The College is within walking distance of Brighton town centre, Brighton train station and is on a main bus route. Please note that there is limited parking on the College campus and parking permits are allocated according to the distance you have to travel to work.

- A family friendly approach to help achieve a healthy work/life balance.
