Job summary

Nursery Nurse - Flexible working opportunity - 16 hours per week

Every member of our team has a full and relevant qualification at a minimum of Level 3 in Childcare. All staff complete additional training in the following as well as child-based training:
  • Paediatric first aid
  • Safeguarding Children (level 3)
  • Health and safety
  • Fire safety
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Food and hygiene

We also have a clear written induction programme for all new staff, students, and volunteers.

Education
  • Knowledge of 'Early years foundation stage'
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Provide support a child's development through learning activities through play and learning
  • Support literacy & numeracy activities and extend learning when appropriate
  • Provide displays are educational and support children's learning, and are children's own work
  • Reflect on and develop practice
  • Plan, deliver, evaluate, contribute and assess teaching and learning activities within curriculum areas
  • Observe and promote child performance and development
  • Prepare and maintain the learning environment


  • Main duties of the job

    Main tasks/duties
  • To be a representative of the nursery, and Sussex Community NHS Trust at all times.
  • To work under the direction of the senior team members.
  • To work with all age groups in the nursery as required, and support a key person for children in any playroom.
  • To maintain the standards of the nursery in conjunction with the nursery and Sussex Community NHS Trust policies and procedures to maintain the standards of the nursery with full regard to the 'Welfare Requirements' as stated in the Early years foundation stage.
  • To have knowledge of child development, child legislation, Early Years Foundation stage, and to keep abreast of current trends in early years care.
  • To support an appropriate settling program with each new child's parents or carers, which is suitable to each family's needs, in conjunction with the nursery settling procedure, and whilst their child attends nursery, to aid the child's learning and development.
  • To work in partnership with, and maintain, a professional relationship with parent/carers, and other family members at all times respecting them. Always ensuring that Parent/Carers are aware of their child's Learning Journal, and their current development, and next steps. Work in partnership with parent/carers in the nursery, recognising that parents are the child's first educators, and encourage parental involvement in the nursery.
