This role must deliver accurate, reliable and timely books of account for the VAL Group and its subsidiaries as well as oversee the operation of IFRS compliant capital accounting.  

Day to day

Some of your key responsibilities as our Accountant specialising in Capital Accounting will be: This role will be part of an established team who are responsible for delivering high quality, accurate, reliable and technically complete capital accounting expertise for all entities within the VAL Group (including VAA and VAH).

The role will require working closely with the Senior Manager - Group Financial Reporting as well as VP Financial Operations & Procurement to ensure all aspects of the Group's Capital transactions are gathered and reported accurately. Supervising all aspects of PPE, intangibles and related accounting. In particular the capitalisation and accounting for the aircraft fleet, IT projects and inventory accounting. Accounting for key judgements surrounding the capitalisation, disposal or impairment of assets as well as supporting the work of others with respect to the opex/capex of WIP. Interfacing of the inventory system [Ultramain] with Oracle G/L, ensuring appropriate accounting and controls for inventory, including sales and loans.

You will be accountable for ensuring that the overall balance sheet is controlled with respect to PPE and Intangibles through reconciliations appropriate workings and accounting papers to support judgements taken (particularly relevant for aircraft transactions). Ensuring that depreciation is run and posted the end of each reporting period, with an accurate lead schedule, and fixed asset register maintained under IFRS at all times. Maintaining the interface between Ultramain and Oracle G/L, and have a good understanding of Oracle fixed asset accounting. Over the longer term you will be supporting the delivery of implementing our new ERP, Oracle Fusion.

In addition to the above, we'd love for our successful candidate to demonstrate the following: ACA/ACCA qualification with a proven background in IFRS Appreciation of management accounting and financial systems - preferably Oracle financials (FA Module in particular) with the skill to implement new systems and accounting modules. Business Objects user experience Ability to dissect, redesign and implement process change. Risk assessment and design of appropriate, proportionate controls.
